My research focuses on individual susceptibility and response to therapy in MAFLD and alcohol-related liver disease (ALD). I have expertise in the design and analysis of genome-wide association studies (SNP arrays and next-generation sequencing), molecular classification, and prognostic prediction. I showed that host genetic variations in genes involved in lipid turnover (e.g. PNPLA3, TM6SF2) impact the development of liver fat and fibrosis (Buch*, Stickel*, Trépo* et al. Nat Genet 2015) and cancer (Trépo et al. Lancet Oncol 2022, Trépo et al. Hepatology 2014). My group studies the development of hepatocellular carcinoma on the background of MAFLD/ALD using single-cell genomics/spatial tissue profiling and develops machine learning-based prognostic models that integrate clinical, genomic, and imaging data.
